Most people can think of at least one “Boss Marketer” they’ve encountered in their career–someone who is always ahead of the game, crushing her goals, and saving the day with stellar content or some badass reporting. These Boss Marketers take on the pressure to fill pipeline, gracefully deal with strict deadlines, put in long hours, and make it all look easy. We all love having these people on our teams because they help us all do our jobs better and make our marketing teams look like rockstar revenue drivers. By looking at the Boss Marketers that we know and love, we identified the following 4 qualities of a certified BMB.

1. They Are Data-Driven Super Nerds

A Boss Marketer doesn’t just know how his campaigns are performing in the moment. Using the reporting tools  like BrightFunnel, Marketo, and Salesforce, he can anticipate the outcome of his impact quarters in advance. He can also look back through the history of a marketing organization and pinpoint specific moments where the marketing team made a big impact. Through data, he can tell you which audience segments the marketing team should be targeting and which are most likely to close.

2. They Know How to  Optimize and Maximize Their Time and Resources

Boss Marketers are always looking to get the most out of everything they do by identifying the right resources that move the needle. They have a keen understanding of their target audience and will go the extra mile to get their attention. They know that by using predictive marketing to identify best-fit accounts to market to, they can have the largest possible impact on pipeline and revenue.

3. They Are Creative

When you own a large contribution to company pipeline you need to have a clear understanding of all the channels at your disposal and be innovative in how you use them. Boss Marketers aren’t afraid to try a new approach to reach their audience. From direct mail to targeted social advertising, they are never afraid to get creative in their outreach.

4. They Are Essential to The Revenue Team

Boss Marketers are in some ways sales people at heart. They know that it is stressful to carry a quota and they put in hours and hours of their time making sure that by the time a lead gets to sales, that lead knows exactly how the product will impact the business. Boss Marketers keep a close eye on opportunities and know that clear communication between the sales and marketing teams is key to an aligned revenue strategy.
