We get asked all of the time how we came up with our name, and of course, there is a logical answer rooted in science. EverString, and our logo for that matter, refers to the connections or relationships between nodes in a model. EverString helps you define the relationships between your business and the world of others in your addressable market—so you can optimize audience selection.
It all began when Vincent Yang, EverString’s CEO, and J.J. Kardwell, EverString’s Co-Founder and President, were working together at Summit Partners, a growth equity and venture capital firm.
In growth equity, there is a pretty similar sales process to the B2B marketing world—you research companies, select targets based on qualification, and then pitch to them on why you are the right partner to help them grow. This entire process took time and money. And in growth equity, with a highly-paid traveling field sales team, the cost of spending time on bad leads was huge.
Born out of the pain of cold calling and qualifying leads, Vincent developed a hypothesis that would change the way that we and others think about lead qualification and acquisition. Backed by Vincent’s background in mathematics, he built an accurate model of what the ideal target looked like based on actual historical data. Using this, Vincent and J.J. could form a point-of-view of every single company in Summit’s market.
This was the genesis of the EverString Audience Platform.
After Vincent left growth equity, he began building the core of the EverString platform. With $1.7 million of seed funding from Sequoia Capital, IDG Ventures, and others in late 2012, Vincent and a small team of data scientists set out to build a minimum viable product. He finished his Stanford MBA in May of 2014 and EverString shifted the business into high gear—signing our first customers and raising a $12 million Series A led by Lightspeed Venture Partners in August 2014.
J.J. and Vincent envision a world where artificial intelligence will enable organizations to compete more efficiently and have more control than ever over driving growth and performance in their businesses—and this journey is already well underway.
In October of 2015, EverString raised a $62 million Series B round of financing, the biggest ever in the space. We have grown to over 120 team members and have filled key seats in the organization with the best talent, with experienced business leaders from Marketo, Salesforce, Netflix, Hortonworks, and more.
We look forward to changing the way that modern revenue teams go to market!
